Millennium Honda and NY Auto Giant Family Help Long Island Girl with Rare Disease
At Millennium Honda, our goal is to treat everyone like family in our local community. It’s where we live, and we believe that you should always lend a helping hand to your neighbor. So, when we heard Marisa Carney’s story as she fights a rare disease at such a young age, we knew we had to help.
Marisa has ROHHAD, which stands for rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysregulation, hypoventilation, and autonomic dysregulation and there are only 75 known cases worldwide. At 8 years old, Marisa must use a respirator to help her breathe as it attacks the nervous system, and she experiences rapid weight gain. Currently, there is no known cause, treatment, or cure for ROHHAD, but steps are being taken to study it.
At Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago, they are conducting a study on ROHHAD, and we wanted to help make sure Marisa was a part of it. So, with all the NY Auto Giant dealerships, we donated $25 for every vehicle we sold in November 2014, and collectively, we were able to sell over 5,000 cars. That raised $103,250!
Now, we hope some breakthroughs can be made and a cure for ROHHAD found.
